The Red Deer operation of Nabors Industries operates over 180 mobile service rigs and related equipment. Each rig is a complex maintenance situation but with equipment constantly moving around it was imperative that a management system be set up. The existing system consisted of many Excel spreadsheets with much redundant data. Could a new system take over without great cost and a lot of down time? Could we accomplish the migration of data easily and without loss?
To complicate things further they needed to track two types of equipment, mobile and skidded, with different people for each group. Could we coordinate them easily?
The Objective
The plan was to proceed cautiously, first bringing on the mobile equipment and controlling the maintenance schedules. They decided to keep the manual system updated until users and management gained confidence with IGOR on their Citrix server.The Solution
The IGOR solution was chosen out of many as it was the one system that was truly user-customizable. Once their data was in IGOR, the process of understanding what they wanted began. Through consultation, over the phone and on-site, we developed a working system. This customized system helps them track where their equipment is, what maintenance is due, and when.While the maintenance customization was in the final stages of completion, they decided to track inventory as well. This would eventually include not only tracking parts but also making purchase orders and tracking vendors. IGOR accepts this with little customization. These purchase orders could then be forwarded to the accounting department, eliminating much manual labor and paper shuffling.
Result
Even now Nabors is fine-tuning IGOR to meet their needs. They have in place a system that tracks their equipment, maintenance, certifications, and are starting on inventory."IGOR is making us double check our data through the demand work order system which is good. We are producing reports for various departments that are well accepted and are being queried for more varied reports that I feel we can produce through IGOR."
