IGOR CMMS Helping Grant MacEwan College
With over 3000 staff and more than 42,000 students making their way around Grant MacEwan College (GMC), they needed a computerized maintenance management system that would provide the most flexibility and ease of use. The maintenance staff at GMC had little in the way of proactive preventative maintenance. They handled in coming requests manually. Furthermore, staff did not have easy access to information about work orders and equipment.
The Objective
To set up a CMMS to get control of all the preventive maintenance tasks. The work requests were to come into a call center which would delegate them to the appropriate trade. The Solution
IGOR was chosen in mid 2001 because they saw that it had the power to handle the heavy load of requests. The flexibility promised that if special needs did arise they could deal with them efficiently.Ron Ewanchuk, the GMC project leader, scheduled sufficient training at the outset so everyone was on track. They trained two groups of about 7-8 staff in a well-equipped training room. Being a community college, this was easy to arrange. The implementation of preventive maintenance is progressing at a steady pace. Work orders are printed weekly which is most common.
Result
During the first six to eight months, GMC made a few requests for minor report modifications and adjustments to the data relating to work requests. We modified IGOR on the spot as needed. This flexibility and user-friendliness encouraged GMC and made their job much easier. After realizing the benefits of IGOR, GMC added a Key Management module to track all their keys. Currently they are implementing a custodial management system.
"Grant MacEwan Facilities Division is very proud to announce that IGOR has become a very instrumental tool in the organization of a very progressive and fast growing college. The ability to document and retain accurate information on an on going basis is a highly respected feature."
"The confident feeling of centralized request and compliance system paralleled by the advanced preventive maintenance program has certainly aided Facilities and Maintenance in a healthy response time to College requirements. IGOR has provided healthy open working parameters from which this department will surely benefit."
